Square Enix and Nintendo Abandon Dragon Quest in North America[edit]
As of 2013, Square Enix and Nintendo have abandoned Dragon Quest in North America and Europe, based on the poor sales of Dragon Quest X on the Wii U in Japan. No titles have been identified as in development with a targeted western release. Due to mis-management and the poor decision in making Dragon Quest X an online-only, subscription game, North America and Europe are entering a second 'dark age' for Dragon Quest similar to 1992-1999. This wiki has moved into a mostly hibernation state due to lack of new available content. All of the momentum generated by the strong Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies sales in the summer of 2010 has been wasted by a Square Enix team that could not capitalize on its success in the larger western market.
Square Enix Turns DQVC Back On After Fan Outcry[edit]
After much outcry, Square Enix has turned the DQVC service back online for Dragon Quest IX as of 24 August 2013.
Square Enix Shuts Down DQVC Servers Without Warning[edit]
In late June 2013, Square Enix abruptly shut down the DQVC online servers for Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies without any prior notification to fans and users. Although many fans were expecting the service to be discontinued, most expected some sort of advanced warning from Square Enix or Nintendo prior to its discontinuation. Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection Wii Iso Free

While it is possible that the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past might eventually be released worldwide, no titles are being identified as in development with a targeted western release. Due to mis-management and a poor decision in making Dragon Quest X an online-only, subscription game, North America and Europe are entering a second 'dark age' for Dragon Quest similar to 1992-1999. Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection coming to Wii[edit]
Famitsu has announced the development of a Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection game for the Wii. It is scheduled for release this summer in Japan. The game will contain the NES and SNES Versions of Dragon Quest I, II, and III. At present, there is no word on whether this game will be released outside of Japan. It is probably unlikely due to the release being made by a 3rd party and the fact that none of the SNES Versions of these games were ever localized for regions outside of Japan.
